Looking for The Cutting Café? For years, crafters linked to The Cutting Café, a shop and blog of printable stamps, card templates and cutting files: shaped cards, word-shaped cards, calendar holders, printable stamp sets and postcards. The blog was hosted on Typepad, which shut down in 2025, and thecuttingcafe.com no longer hosts the shop (checked October 19, 2026). This page isn’t a copy of those designs. It’s our own free set of the same kinds of templates, drawn from scratch, that you can print or cut today.
Before you print or cut
Print every PDF at 100% or “actual size”, not “fit to page”, so the pieces come out the size listed. Each template PDF has the template page and a page of steps.
Shaped and word cards fold at the top. The bottom half is the front of the card. The top half is the same shape flipped, so when you fold it back the outlines line up and the card stands on its own.
Cutting machine users: the SVG files open in Cricut Design Space, Silhouette Studio Designer Edition and up, and Inkscape. The DXF files work in Silhouette Studio Basic Edition. Fold lines come in as separate lines: set them to Score and Attach them to the shape. New to cut files? See what an SVG file is and how to upload one to Design Space.

Card sizes and an A2 envelope template
Most handmade cards are cut from a sheet twice the size of the finished card and folded in half. These are the standard US sizes and the envelopes they fit.
| Size | Finished card | Cut the card base | Envelope |
|---|---|---|---|
| A2 | 4.25 x 5.5 in | 5.5 x 8.5 in (a letter sheet cut in half), scored at 4.25 in | 4.375 x 5.75 in |
| A6 | 4.5 x 6.25 in | 6.25 x 9 in, scored at 4.5 in | 4.75 x 6.5 in |
| A7 | 5 x 7 in | 7 x 10 in, scored at 5 in | 5.25 x 7.25 in |
| A9 | 5.5 x 8.5 in | 8.5 x 11 in (a full letter sheet), scored at 5.5 in | 5.75 x 8.75 in |
A2 is the easiest place to start: cut a letter sheet in half across the middle and fold each half to make two cards.
Shaped card templates
Six cards that fold along the top and stand up in their own shape. Make them plain and write inside, color the drawn details, or layer patterned paper on the front.
How to make a shaped card
- Print at 100% on 65-80 lb cardstock.
- Score the dashed fold line with a ruler and a bone folder or a dry ballpoint pen.
- Cut out any inside openings first, then cut around the outline.
- Fold the top half back along the score so the edges line up.
- Decorate the front and write inside.
Word-shaped card templates
Each word card is one welded piece: the letters overlap, a bar runs along the bottom, and the card folds at the top of every letter. Four sentiment strips print under each card.
How to make a word card
- Print at 100% on cardstock.
- Cut the openings inside the letters (the O, A and so on) with a craft knife on a cutting mat.
- Score the short dashed folds across the top of each letter.
- Cut around the outside of the word and fold the top half back.
- Cut out a sentiment strip and glue it inside.
Calendar holder templates and 2027 month cards
A small desk tent that folds from one strip of heavy cardstock. Corner slits on the front hold a 4 x 3.25 in month card, so you can swap in the next month without glue. The wide holder adds a second window for a photo or a note.
How to assemble a calendar holder
- Print on 80-110 lb cardstock at 100%.
- Cut the four corner slits on the front with a craft knife.
- Cut along the outline.
- Score and fold the three dashed lines so the strip forms a triangle.
- Glue the tab under the top edge of the front panel and hold it until it sets.
- Tuck the corners of a month card into the slits.
2027 month cards
Sunday-first calendars for the holders, six to a page.
Printable stamp sets
Printable stamps (sometimes called digital stamps or digi stamps) are black line drawings you print, color and cut out instead of stamping with ink. Each set has 12 images and 4 sentiments on one sheet, plus a transparent PNG of every image at 300 dpi for anyone who designs cards on a computer.
How to use printable stamps
- Print the sheet at 100% on smooth white cardstock. Textured cardstock makes marker coloring blotchy.
- Color with colored pencils, crayons or markers. Alcohol markers can bleed through, so test one on a scrap first.
- Cut each image out close to the line (“fussy cutting”), or leave a thin white border.
- Glue the image to a card front, or stick it on with foam squares so it stands out.
- Add a sentiment from the bottom of the sheet.
Printable postcards
Two 4 x 6 in postcard fronts and a matching address back. Print page 1, put the same sheet back in the printer, and print page 2 on the other side, or use your printer’s two-sided setting and flip on the long edge.
Cut on the thin outlines with a paper trimmer for the cleanest edges. Print a test sheet on copy paper first to check how your printer lines up the two sides.
Printable postcards
Two fronts plus an address back for two-sided printing.

Questions
Do I need a Cricut or Silhouette?
No. Every template prints at letter size with a solid cut line and dashed fold lines, so scissors and a craft knife are enough. The SVG and DXF files are there for anyone who wants a machine to do the cutting.
What paper should I use?
65-80 lb (176-216 gsm) cardstock for shaped and word cards, heavier 80-110 lb cardstock for the calendar holders and postcards, and plain copy or text-weight paper for the envelope. For printable stamps, smooth white cardstock takes markers best.
Can I sell cards I make with these templates?
Yes. You can sell up to 500 handmade cards per design, the same terms as every file on this site. You can't sell, share or re-upload the template files themselves.
Why does my card print smaller than the size listed?
Your print dialog is probably set to "fit to page" or "shrink to fit". Choose 100% or "actual size" and print again.
How do I make the fold lines score on a Cricut?
In Design Space, select the dashed lines, change their operation from Cut to Score, then select them with the card shape and click Attach so they stay in place on the mat.
Will the 4 x 6 in postcards mail at the postcard rate?
In the US, the postcard price covers cards from 3.5 x 5 in up to 4.25 x 6 in, between 0.007 and 0.016 in thick. A 4 x 6 in card printed on 80-110 lb cardstock fits. Check with your post office if you're mailing from outside the US.
For teachers and librarians
No ads, no sign-up, nothing to buy. You’re welcome to link to this page from a library guide, a makerspace page, a class page or a crafting blog. The shaped cards, envelope and printable stamps work well for card-making programs, and the calendar holder makes a good January or back-to-school project.
